Our
unique advising process includes, but is not limited
to:
Getting
to know the student
In order to best serve you, it's necessary to
spend some time getting to know you. Mrs. Brown
will develop a profile of your academic, social
and professional expectations. Your academic history
will be discussed in detail as well as your extracurricular
accomplishments. After the initial meeting, you
will be asked to complete an in-depth questionnaire
which will assist us in creating a college list
unique to you.
The
College List
The list is truly the heart of the process. Each
student is given a personalized college list that
best matches their strengths. By using data collected
from the interview, questionnaire as well as information
from your academic transcript Mrs. Brown develops
a list that is best suited for your educational,
social and personal growth.
Organization
This task is the most difficult for clients, yet
most important, and goes largely ignored. Mrs.
Brown will provide tools on how to manage all
the mail you will receive, as well as how to keep
track of important dates, deadlines and requirements
needed to successfully navigate the admissions
cycle.
High
School Experience
Mrs. Brown will offer suggestions on the best
classes to take, and will encourage you to become
an active member of your high school community.
Summer experiences have become increasingly important
and suggestions will be made to best highlight
your natural strengths and talents.
College
Visits
Mrs. Brown strongly advises all her clients to
visit colleges on their list. If there is a possibility
that it could be your home for the next four years,
you should give it a test drive by visiting a
class, meeting some of the students and observing
the atmosphere on campus. Mrs. Brown will assist
you with tips for best times to visit, what to
look for while on campus, and checklists to help
you remember it all.
College
Interviews
The more students learn to talk candidly about
their achievements and interests, the more likely
they will successfully conquer the admissions
interview. Mrs. Brown will offer suggestions and
provide a forum which will help to ease nerves
and make students more comfortable with discussing
their own achievements.
College
Essays
Mrs. Brown likes to think of essay writing as
an additional senior year class. Expectations
are that students will begin in a timely manner,
and will put a considerable amount of thought
into the subject. Tips will ensure that your natural
voice and personality shine through to create
a memorable essay.
Sounding
Board
Throughout the process, Mrs. Brown is available
to discuss questions as they arise. Once letters
of acceptance arrive, Mrs. Brown is an unbiased
sounding board to discuss pros and cons of different
options available to the students. She is also
available to discuss how to best prepare for orientation,
registration, and dorm life.
