Educated
at Virginia Commonwealth and the Medical College
of Virginia, Lara Brown holds a Bachelor’s
Degree in Psychology and a Master’s Degree
in Counseling and recently completed an advanced
course for new Independent Educational Consultants
at the 2007 Summer Training Institute at Towson
University.
She
has been directly involved in school counseling
and admissions in a variety of secondary and post-secondary
settings for nine years. She began working with
students in 1998 as a career coach at Virginia
Commonwealth University, helping student’s
with disabilities match college majors with internships
and part-time positions while pursuing their degrees.
In
2003 she accepted a position as a guidance counselor
in a public high school but soon realized that
high school counselors are so over-tasked with
SOL testing and other school requirements and
duties that they do not have the time needed to
research colleges and work closely with individual
students and their families to ensure the right
college match.
Mrs.
Brown will take on a small client caseload each
year to ensure personalized attention –
something not often found in public school guidance
offices.
